Paul Midiri’s Method for the Snare Drum is designed to be effective for the youngest students by providing a large amount of practice material. This allows the student sufficient time to develop his or her technique over the course of a lesson cycle. For older students the larger number of exercises offers the opportunity to fine tune his or her technique even further.

Reading music is emphasized, stressing the importance of counting aloud and beginning each exercise slowly and increasing tempo as mastery is attained. Each section of the book is begun with a set of instruction explaining the skills needed for the following work.

Whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth notes and rests are covered, as well as open and closed rolls of all varieties in 2-4, 4-4, and 6-8 meters are included.
